Earth’s oceans were home to some of the largest, fiercest and most successful predators ever. While dinosaurs ruled the land, huge prehistoric reptiles, sharks and whales hunted the depths.
The Dinosaurs of the Deep exhibition combines real fossils, gigantic replicas, immersive multimedia and hands-on interactives to reveal these ancient monsters of the deep. What can their fossilised bones tell us about how they lived? How do they compare to today’s top ocean predators? Specimens and models introduce the creatures, while interactives and multimedia explore how they lived and coped in the marine environment.
The exhibition explains how the three main types of ancient reptiles left the land to rule the seas. In the oceans, ichthyosaurs, plesiosaurs and mosasaurs developed into awesome, enormous predators that make today’s Great White sharks seem harmless! - They were bigger than the largest carnivorous dinosaurs.Skeletons of these massive predators, including the 13m long Elasmosaurus, and even larger Tylosaurus; the “T-rex of the sea” Real fossil specimens, millions of years old.
