Jades of Jingshan -Exhibition of Jades Unearthed in Jingzhou, Hubei

Xiongjiazhong, an aristocratic graveyard of the ancientChuStatelocated in Jingzhou, is so far the largest in size and highest in specification of its kind. With intact layout, the graveyard includes the main tombs, the auxiliary tombs, tombs with human victims, sacrificial pits, horse-and-chariot pits, etc. Since 2006, systematic exploration, large-scale excavation and partial digging and sorting out of the tombs have been carried out by archaeologists to make a sketch of the layout of the graveyard.

Only two dozens of tombs with sacrificial objects and human victims have been excavated, but the number of unearthed jade carvings is alarming. A small portion of the jade is selected for the exhibition that covers a wide diversity of its kind and shape, including jade bi, jade of arc-shaped ornaments, jade pendant, dragon-shaped jade pendant, stringed jade ornaments, etc. Together with detailed interpretation of the jade patterns of cloud, s-shape, ә-shape and so on, a deep appreciation of the peculiar design and exquisite craftsmanship are expected from the visitors to get access to the spiritual world ofChuState.
