Miao people is a minority ethnical group, distributing mainly in Guizhou,Hunan,Yunnan,Chongqing, and Guangxi. One of Miao’s traditional handicraft is Miao embroidery. It is the embodiment of Miao’s history and culture, revealing Miao’s aesthetic, values and wisdom. Called “Music of Needlecraft” by scholars, Miao embroidery is among the first of National Intangible Heritage of Humanity. Its rich cultural content, exquisite skills and distinctive characteristics have won people’s admiration. Demonstrated in the exhibition are chiefly needlework from Guizhou, Yuanan, and Hunan and various embroidery skills—running, chain, appliqué, cross-stitch, knotted, split-thread, crape, knit, stitching, and embroidery by using gold and silver thread and so on. Visitors can appreciate the beauty of Miao embroidery and learn about culture and customs of the Miao people.
