In 2008, the so-called Millennium Pagoda, the gilded Asoka Pagoda in Changgan Temple, Jinling, dating to the Northern Song Dynasty, was unearthed in Nanjing. It is by far the biggest, the most complex and exquisite Asoka pagoda in China, astonishing visitors with its magnificent tall structure, delicate colorful designs, and fully gilded shape with seven treasures. More importantly, Buddhist relics and an actual head bone of Buddha are found in the pagoda, as well as a gold coffin, a silver outer coffin, and a large number of other valuable items, celebrated in the field of relic protection and religious circles.Light of the Holy Pagoda selects the seven treasures of the Asoka Pagoda, and some 30 pieces of rare and valuable relics from the underground palace of Changgan Temple, including a gold coffin and silver outer coffin, a gilt silver box, a colored glaze water bottle, crystal beads, a gilt silver perfume satchel, a lotus incense burner, a silk handkerchief with ink written vows, and a handkerchief with dragon motifs.
These precious cultural relics reflect the wish for harmony between the monarch and the people as well as for national peace. The design on the relics, the statues of Buddha and the pictures are all brilliant human-made works of the Northern Song Dynasty, elaborate and lifelike. They are truly rare Buddhist treasures.
