The Story of Bronzeware

Keywords: Zhou Dynasties, Bronze, Ningxia
History

Located in the south of Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, Guyuan was not only one of the important towns in the northwest of China, but also a town through which the northern route of the eastern section of the Silk Road had to pass. Since the pre-Qin era, there were frequent exchanges in this area among farming peoples from the Central Plains, nomadic peoples from the grasslands, and ethnic groups from the Western Regions. The bronze culture with unique grasslands features of northern China emerged throughout history and developed under these circumstances, given the constant collision and fusion of various cultures, gradually becoming the model of the diversity of Chinese civilization and Sino-Western cultural exchanges.

There were nearly 100 tombs discovered in Guyuan, which were built between the West Zhou Dynasty and the Spring and Autumn Period, and the relics from these tombs are exhibited in the museum, divided into three units in chronological order. The exhibition fully demonstrates the features of bronze culture of the region along the Great Wall in the Loess Plateau—with Longshan Mountain (also called Liupan Mountain) at its center—and will lead everyone to discover the historical background of this culture.
