Dr. Sun Yat-sen was a giant ofChinain 20th century. For the revolutionary cause of Chinese democracy, he traveled around and left his footprints throughout the world, one of which is theUnited States of America. Dr. Sun had been toAmericamany times, promoting revolutionary ideas, establishing revolutionary organizations, raising money, and meeting some like-minded comrades. Among them there were Americans who were keen on Chinese revolutionary cause, and patriotic overseas Chinese who kept deep in their hearts their motherland. All of them had contributed greatly to the Chinese democracy and revolution.
Apart from revolutionary activities, Dr. Sun enriched his own theory by taking in essences from theories of ancient times to the present, and of other countries. On many occasions, he had said that his Three People’s Principles (Nationalism, Democracy, and People’s Livelihood) had much in common with Abraham Lincoln’s “of the people, for the people, and by the people”.
