Baoji, which was called Chencang in ancient times, lies at the western boundary of Guanzhong Plain. As a transportation routeof the Plain and Qinling Mountains, Baoji encompassesflat and fertile land through which theWeishui River winds. Every inch here has a long history as the birthplace of the Zhou and Qin Dynastiesand the hometown of the Yan Emperor. It is not only world famous for bronze ware, but is also at the origins of ancient jade ware. A large amountof prehistoric jade, jade ware of the Shang Dynasty, Zhou Dynasty and Spring and Autumn and Warring States Period, hasbeen unearthed in Baoji, among which jade ware of the Zhou Dynasty and Qin Dynasty are extremely famous inthe field for their quantity, diversity and exquisite designs.

China is one of the three large countries in the world producing jade ware, and has the longest history of doing so. It has also developed jade culture with Chinese characteristics due to its exquisite manufacturing, unique art design and widespread use. Furthermore, jade manufacturingtechnology, lifestyle, culture, religion and philosophy relating to jade are all important components of traditional Chinese culture. As a result, jade has been cherished and lovedfrom ancient times until now. This exhibition aims to show prehistoric jade, jade ware of the Western Zhou Dynasty, and jade ware of the Spring and Autumn and Warring States Period in four parts: sacrificial wares, mild jade, precise design and exquisite manufacture. Unfinished jade wares display the cultivation and manufacture of jade and completely illustrate theprosperity of jade culture in the early Qin Dynasty.
