Green Steppe -Exhibition of Bortala Ethnic Customs

Keywords: Green Steppe, Bortala Ethnic, Customs

Bortala means “green steppe” in Mongolian language. According to the researches done into historical records and relics, the history of Bortala can be traced back to the Upper Paleolithic, about ten thousand years ago.

Dramatic changes have undergone in Bortala since the foundation of People’s Republic of China in 1949, the peaceful liberation of Xinjiang in 1950, and the establishment of Bortala Mongol Autonomous Prefecture in 1954. Nowadays, with the national road 312 and New Eurasian Continental Bridge running through this area, Bortala has become an important trading base linking Central Asia toEurope.

Bortala is a wonderful place with picturesque scenery and abundant natural resources. Various ethnic people populate in this area—Mongolian, Han, Uygur, Kazak, Hui and so on. These peoples get along well and harmoniously, respecting each other and learning from each other, and using their talents to promote the prosperity of Xinjiang. With everyone’s efforts, Bortala has become a united, friendly, and harmonious homeland.
